Exhibition Opportunity – Curating Curiosity, Call for Works

Exhibition Opportunity, Ragley Gallery and Studio, Ragley Hall, Warwickshire

Ragley Gallery is a new space opening at the fabulous heritage site of Ragley Hall. I am looking for artists (emerging and established) to exhibit in the opening exhibition event.

Curating Curiosity, April 2013

The opening event will celebrate the diversity of talent that is in the West Midlands, and help introduce your talents to a new audience  already interested in heritage and culture in our County. Any work will be considered 2d, 3d ceramics, textile, photography and film, in fact the more diverse the better as on this occasion I am cultivating a curiosity in what contemporary artists have to offer. I have an exhibition space and studio space where I intend to offer more opportunities in the future, working on projects, presenting workshops etc. and a rolling programme of events.

Send Artist’s statement, C.V. and Images of work. Please indicate size and medium and send to me, the artist in residence, Dawn Harris at dlharrisvisualartist@hotmail.co.uk.

Attachments and links to artist’s websites/blogs are accepted. No charges to exhibit, Ragley Gallery and Studio will take a 25% commission on any sales.

Coughton Court Residency 2012

Exhibition: To Love and Protect, 24th November – 2nd December 2012

To Love and Protect explores the identity of the women of Coughton Court through the legacy they left behind. Dawn’s work investigates their identities in relation to others, in relation to a performed role and in relation to the period of history within which they lived.

The face, specifically the eyes are central in these works, the faces are taken directly from their portraits hung within the house and stripped of the adorning paraphernalia chosen by the portrait artist. The faces are then embedded with the experience culminating in a visual representation of the women’s identity within that moment.  The exhibition represents Dawn’s artistic response to some of the stories of the women of Coughton who fought for the freedom and safety of their loved ones, the work is also an empathetic response from an artist who shares an understanding of the desire to want to Love and Protect is present within us all.
